The Place des Arts is a collection of buildings all dedicated to the arts in Montreal. In the complex there are a variety of performance halls, theatres and museums.
There are six performance halls in the Place des Arts. These include the Montreal Symphony House, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Théâtre Maisonneuve, Théâtre Jean-Duceppe, Studio-théâtre and the Cinquième salle. The amount of theatres allows the Place des Arts to host opera, orchestral, and ballet performances. Place des Arts hosts theatre productions, film presentations, and ceremonies across its different buildings, making it one of Canada’s most famous and versatile performing arts centres.
Location and Hours
Place des Arts in Montreal is located at 175 Saint-Catherine Street W (or rue Ste.-Catherine O. in French). It is located between downtown Montreal and the Quartier des Spectacles.
There are two entrances to the Place des Arts building. One is at the place’s main address, 175 Saint-Catherine Street. The other entrance is close to the parkade at 1600 Saint-Urbain Street.
Underground parking is available for an extra charge. The parking lot’s address is 1450 Saint-Urbain Street.
You can find several interesting Montreal landmarks near the Place des Arts building. Montreal’s Chinatown is just across the street and the Notre-Dame Basilica is just a 15-minute walk away.

Musee d’art contemporain de Montreal
One of the most notable features inside the Places des Arts is the Musee d’art contemporain de Montreal, which is a contemporary art museum. The museum is currently undergoing construction work and is closed. It has temporarily relocated to Place Ville-Marie. The museum is being transformed and its new facility is scheduled to open in 2028.
