Sherbrooke Street stretches nearly 32 kilometres, making it one of the longest and most well-known streets in Montreal.
Montreal’s Sherbrooke Street
Running from east to west, Sherbrooke Street is the second-longest street on the island of Montreal. From beginning to end, the street covers 31.3 kilometres.
Also called Rue Sherbrooke in French, the place is popular for shopping and is home to a selection of upscale stores and boutiques. The street also features varied and, in some cases, opulent architecture.
Sherbrooke Street begins at Westminster Avenue and runs all the way across the island to connect with Notre-Dame Street. Saint Laurent Boulevard divides the street in half. Everything east of Saint Laurent Boulevard is called Sherbrooke Street East, and everything west is Sherbrooke Street West.
Sherbrooke Street West
Sherbrooke Street West lies west of Saint Laurent Boulevard. It encompasses popular Montreal areas such as downtown Montreal, the Golden Square Mile and Shaughnessy Village.
People know this part of Sherbrooke Street for its art and architecture. Many public art galleries including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are located along the road. Visitors can also find a variety of public art displayed around the area.
The Golden Square Mile is the busiest section of Sherbrooke Street West. Expect to find luxury stores, high-end hotels and historic properties when wandering this section. Builders constructed many of the older buildings in the late 19th or early 20th centuries and gave them ornate designs.

Sherbrooke Street East
Sherbrooke Street East is the slightly longer portion of Sherbrooke Street. It runs from Saint Laurent Boulevard up to Notre-Dame Street.
Most of the area along Sherbrooke Street East is residential. There are some small parks as well as some limited commercial sections.
Notable landmarks on Sherbrooke Street East include La Fontaine Park, the Montreal Olympic Park and Parc-Nature Pointe-aux-Prairies. For shopaholics, there is the Place Versailles shopping mall.
